Abstract The Southern Atlantic-Southwest Indian ridges (SASWIR) host mid-ocean ridge basalts with a residual subduction-related geochemical fingerprint (i.e., a ghost-arc signature) of unclear origin. Here, we show through an analysis of plate kinema

The origin of the Permian-Triassic Choiyoi silicic large igneous province (SLIP) is assessed by linking the igneous record, plate-kinematic reconstructions, and the deep mantle. This study suggests an origin related to a massive slab loss in Pangea.

The Choiyoi Magmatic Province represents a major episode of silicic magmatism in southwestern Pangea in the mid-Permian-Triassic, the origin of which remains intensely debated. Here, we integrate plate-kinematic reconstructions and the lower mantle s

The only Late Cretaceous-Paleocene intraplate magmatic unit of southern Patagonia, known as the Las Mercedes basalt, is petrogenetically studied in its geodynamic context. The outcrops of this unit are thin ridges located in a narrow 50 km wide latit

The arrival and subsequent stagnation of the Farallon/Nazca slab at the mantle transition zone below southern South America triggered seemingly unrelated large-scale geological processes in the second half of the Cenozoic. During this period, three p
