Abstract Background Somatic copy number alterations are a hallmark of cancer that offer unique opportunities for therapeutic exploitation. Here, we focused on the identification of specific vulnerabilities for tumors harboring chromosome 8p deletions

Abstract Background Cellular iron homeostasis is regulated by iron regulatory proteins (IRP1 and IRP2) that sense iron levels (and other metabolic cues) and modulate mRNA translation or stability via interaction with iron regulatory elements (IREs).

Abstract The role of iron in the two major sites of adaptive thermogenesis, namely the beige inguinal (iWAT) and brown adipose tissues (BAT) has not been fully understood yet. Body iron levels and distribution is controlled by the iron regulatory pep

Abstract System-wide approaches have unveiled an unexpected breadth of the RNA-bound proteomes of cultured cells. Corresponding information regarding RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) of mammalian organs is still missing, largely due to technical challenge

The glycosphingolipid, α-galactosylceramide (αGalCer), when presented by CD1d on antigen-presenting cells, efficiently activates invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells. Thereby, it modulates immune responses against tumors, microbial and viral inf

Both hypoxic and inflammatory conditions activate transcription factors such as hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α and nuclear factor (NF)-κB, which play a crucial role in adaptive responses to these challenges. In dendritic cells (DC), lipopolysacc

Mammalian iron metabolism is regulated systemically by the hormone hepcidin and cellularly by iron regulatory proteins (IRPs) that orchestrate a posttranscriptional regulatory network. Through ligand-inducible genetic ablation of both IRPs in the gut

Low plasma iron (hypoferremia) induced by hepcidin is a conserved inflammatory response that protects against infections but inhibits erythropoiesis. How hypoferremia influences leukocytogenesis is unclear. Using proteomic data, we predicted that neu
