The air quality downscaling model uEMEP and its combination with the EMEP MSC-W chemical transport model are used here to achieve high-resolution air quality modelling at street level in Europe. By using publicly available proxy data, this uEMEP–EM

Road dust emissions in Nordic countries still remain a significant contributor to PM10 concentrations mainly due to the use of studded tyres. Measures to reduce road dust emissions include speed reductions, reductions in studded tyre use, dust bindin

We present an overview of the modelling of particle number concentrations (PNCs) in five major European cities, namely Helsinki, Oslo, London, Rotterdam, and Athens, in 2008. Novel emission inventories of particle numbers have been compiled both on u

We have evaluated numerically how effective a few selected measures would be for reducing road dust. The selected measures included the reduction of the use of studded tyres in light-duty vehicles and phasing-out of salt or sand in traction control.

Non-exhaust emissions from road dust, such as particulate matter (PM) available for suspension from the road surface, can be a significant contributor to traffic-related PM emissions. The sources of road dust can be many and varied and include traffi
