What follows is a short report on the Business Meeting of the Astronomy and World Heritage Working Group held on Thursday August 6, 2009. This was the first formal Business Meeting of the Working Group since its formation following the signing of the

Recent observations of brightness variations on the sun during the solar cycle have motivated us to re-examine the widely held view that cool, dark starspots, covering a significant fraction of the star, are the centers of magnetic activity on BY Dra

We report on the first simultaneous Extreme-Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) and optical observations of flares on the dMe flare star AD Leonis. The data show the following features: (1) Two flares (one large and one of moderate size) of several hours dur

Photometric and spectroscopic observations covering the wavelength range 1200-8000 A are presented for a giant flare on the M dwarf star AD Leo. The flare radiated more than 10 34 ergs in this wavelength region and lasted for more than 4 hr. The magn

Radiation losses from quiescent and flaring regions of red dwarf atmospheres are compared and found to be equally important. The flare emission on all wavelengths approaches 1% of the stellar bolometric luminosity for active dMe stars, but is 100 tim

We review the flaring activity of stars across the HR-diagram. Brightenings have been reported along the entire Main Sequence and in many stars off the Main Sequence. Some stars are decidedly young, others are in advanced stages of stellar evolution.

We review the observed properties of the radiation from flare star atmospheres and stellar flare regions. Data from satellite and ground-based instruments are used to investigate interrelations between the photospheres, chromospheres, transition regi
