We consider the problem of calibrating an antenna array using received signals from either known or unknown directions. A complex matrix is used to map the assumed array manifold to the true array manifold. This matrix may be completely unstructured.

In his draft preface for the book he did not live to publish, Wilfred Owen articulated a stance toward the writing of war poetry that has since served as one of the standards against which other war poets are judged. Emphatically rejecting “glory,

Parametric calibration of antenna arrays uses mathematical models of the array manifold with adjustable parameters. In this study, the author shows that the standard model used in that array signal processing literature may not be capable of accurate
The prose writings of Charles Olson (1910–1970) have had a far-reaching and continuing impact on post-World War II American poetics. Olson's theories, which made explicit the principles of his own poetics and those of the Black Mountain poets, were

The paper investigates a general parametric model for the manifold of polarization sensitive arrays based on representing each antenna by a collection of short dipoles. The manifold has a simple form consisting of an extended isotropic manifold, vert

The problem of locating signals transmitted in the proximity of an antenna array has been studied extensively in the signal processing literature. In this paper, we consider the standard array manifold models used in these works and show that they di

We discuss some of the issues associated with the Mutual Coupling Matrix (MCM) which is used extensively to model the antenna array manifold. We show that the MCM does not have the correct structure to provide an accurate mathematical model of the tr

Using the stochastic Cramer-Rao bound for direction estimation we study the performance of nonuniformly spaced linear antenna arrays. We show that the estimation accuracy of such arrays depends primarily on the integrated SNR and the array aperture.

The manifold of an array with identical antennas is generally assumed to be insensitive to the polarization of the impinging signal except for a complex scale factor which only affects the signal amplitude. Signal polarization is therefore considered

The antenna array manifold is central to high-resolution direction finding. The analytic manifold is defined here as the mathematical model of the array response calculated by solving the electromagnetic equations for the waves impinging on the array
