MARSIS attenuation and thermal data confirm that liquid brines are the most plausible source for the bright reflections at the base of the South Polar Layered Deposits. Such results also justify why SHARAD does not penetrate to the base of the ice.

Two anhydrobiotic strains of the cyanobacterium Chroococcidiopsis, namely CCMEE 029 and CCMEE 171, isolated from the Negev Desert in Israel and from the Dry Valleys in Antarctica, were exposed to salty-ice simulations. The aim of the experiment was t

Liquid water was present on the surface of Mars in the distant past; part of that water is now in the ground in the form of permafrost and heat from the molten interior of the planet could cause it to melt at depth. MARSIS (Mars Advanced Radar for Su

We present a quantitative ground-penetrating radar (GPR) analysis of the Lower Calderone Glacieret to highlight the recent evolution of one of the southernmost glacial systems in Europe. The Upper and Lower Calderone Glacierets are the last two peren

Introduction The detection of anomalous bright reflections beneath the Martian SPLD by MARSIS radar has sparked a vast debate on the characterization of the basal material. The source of the reflections has been interpreted by someone as an evidence
