We have done extensive experiments with dense (25-GHz channel spacing) high speed, (individual channel rates of 2.5 and 5.0 GB/s) soliton WDM over transoceanic distances. The experiments were performed in a loop 1400 to 2400 km in length with a 45 km

In commercial applications of soliton communications systems with sliding-frequency guiding filters, a method for line-monitoring (LM) and fault location is required. We propose a novel LM system which is compatible with such systems. The LM channel

WDM transmission tests were performed on a 4200 km installed section of the Trans-Pacific Cable (TPC-5) system. Tests were performed at transmission rates up to 10 Gbit/s and at distances up to 16800 km by looping the received signal back at each end

340 Gb/s (seventeen 20-Gb/s 2/sup 31/-1 PRBS NRZ channels) were transmitted through 150 km of fiber with 50 km amplifier spacing. Chromatic dispersion penalties and four-photon mixing effects were minimized by dispersion management. >

The transmission of many Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) channels over transoceanic distances can be limited by the nonlinear interactions between channels. In this work the nonlinear interactions were suppressed by tailoring the chromatic disp

The large gain bandwidth of erbium doped fiber amplifiers has stimulated interest in WDM systems with many channels. For transoceanic and other such long-haul systems, the number of channels is limited by the accumulated gain bandwidth, w hich tends
