This study investigates the impact of beach sediment supply on dune volume evolution through data analysis and model simulations of the Kennemer dunes in the Netherlands. A cross-shore sediment transport model (the CS-model) is applied with local tim

The behaviour of subtidal sandbars can be strongly influenced by the introduction of sand nourishments in the coastal system. This study focuses on the impact of nourishments on subtidal bar behaviour at spatio-temporal scales beyond a single nourish

Coastline retreat is an evident sign of the vulnerability of low-lying sandy coasts to erosion and sea level rise (SLR). Sand nourishments are commonly used to maintain foreshores, beaches, and dunes to preserve their role in flood protection, beach

Mega-nourishments, aiming at providing long-term coastal safety, nature qualities and recreational space, have been applied recently at the Holland coast and are considered at various other places in the world. Methods to quickly evaluate the potenti

Coastal dunes play an important role in flood protection and erosion mitigation along sandy coasts. Still, few models are available that predict long-term dune evolution. Dune processes are typically modeled at shorter time scales, focusing on storm

In the Western Scheldt estuary a 45-day campaign took place to measure ship induced waves and currents on a tidal flat. It was established that the hydraulic loads due to the passing ships were large enough to play a major part in the erosion process
