Attempted synthesis of ophiocerin A using D-gulonic acid-δ-lactone

The tetrahydropyranyl ring of ophiocerin A has been successfully synthesized from D-gulonic acid-δ-lactone with the requisite stereogenic centers. Ho wever deoxygenation at C 6 in the precursor was not achieved.
