The detector of the E865-collaboration at the Brookhaven-AGS described here combines a magnetic spectrometer for the charged decay products of 6 GeV /c K + with excellent electromagnetic calorimetry and efficient particle identification for electrons

Most over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical container labels are printed in very small type. Consequently, people with visual impairments (e.g., presbyopia in older adults) have difficult reading the material. Some OTC drugs are packaged in containers

To indicate a prohibited activity, pictorials are frequently overlaid with a red circle and 45° left-to-right slash. Previous research suggests that the combination of the slash and symbol may affect the overall identifiability of the warning. The p

Stress has been shown to affect perceptual processing and decision making in various domains. Two experiments examined the effect of stress on compliance behavior. The first experiment also examined the effect of warning location. In Experiment 1, pa

This study examined the effect of the presence and color of a supplemental cap label on medication information acquisition and container preference. Participants were 75 elders from a retirement community who were asked to examine one of five manipul

A circle with a 45-degree slash overlayed on a pictorial has been increasingly used to depict a negation. However, in some cases this overlay could obscure critical parts of the symbol making the depiction difficult to recognise. The present study in

There has been relatively little warnings research directed at systematically examining the component features comprising existing warning signs as specified in standards (ANSI Z535) and guidelines (e.g., FMC, 1985; Westinghouse, 1981). This research

Research on the effectiveness of warnings has tended to focus on internal design aspects including variables such as the inclusion of various pictorials, color, and signal words. Only a few studies have examined the influence of warning-related varia

We have made the first observation of a charged particle beam by means of its electro-optical effect on the polarization of laser light in a LiNbO3 crystal. The modulation of the laser light during the passage of a pulsed electron beam was observed u
