Researchers exploit the strong dependence of gap-plasmon phase velocity on gap width to make a compact phase-modulator. An electromechanically variable gap size enables a 23-μm-long non-resonant modulator with moderate losses.

Strong resonant enhancements of inelastic light scattering from the long wavelength inter-Landau level magnetoplasmon and the intra-Landau level spin wave excitations are seen for the fractional quantum Hall state at $\nu = 1/3$. The energies of the

Very dilute two-dimensional hole systems were probed by resonant inelastic light scattering. This extremely high mobility system occurs in AlxGa1−xAs∕GaAs quantum wells designed specifically for their light insensitivity. We find that the depolar

Recent resonant inelastic light scattering experiments in the fractional quantum Hall regime highlight the power of the method in studies of election-electron interactions in semiconductors of reduced dimensions. We review here light scattering exper

Even though composite fermions in the fractional quantum Hall liquid are well established, it is not yet known up to what energies they remain intact. We probe the high-energy spectrum of the 1/3 liquid directly by resonant inelastic light scattering

Exchange enhancements of the spin-polarized 2D electron gas are determined for the first time by inelastic light scattering from spin-flip inter-Landau-level and intersubband excitations. In the magnetic quantum limit v=1 the splitting between long w

Using high-pressure Raman scattering, we have directly measured the pressure dependence of the in-plane superexchange interaction J in antiferromagnetic ${\mathrm{La}}_{2}$${\mathrm{CuO}}_{4}$ between 1 bar and 100 kbar. We find that J has a substant
