Transient light-induced absorption changes αli(t), caused by optically generated small polarons, are investigated in LiNbO3:Mg below and above the optical-damage-resistance threshold (ODRT). The lifetime of αli(t) is reduced by three orders of magn

Diffraction efficiency, relaxation behavior and dependence on pump-beam intensity of small-polaron based holograms are studied in thermally reduced, nominally undoped lithium niobate in the visible spectrum (λ = 488 nm). The pronounced phase grating

A microscopic model for the nonexponential relaxation of localized-charge carrier densities in oxide crystals is derived by taking into account thermally activated diffusive hopping transport and the effect of trap saturation. Thereby it is shown tha

The study of the transient light-induced absorption in thermally reduced, periodically poled lithium niobate doped with Y uncovers the simultaneous action of the ${\text{Nb}}_{\text{Li}}^{4+}:{\text{Nb}}_{\text{Nb}}^{4+}$ bipolaron and ${\text{O}}^{\

Transient light-induced absorption in nominally undoped and Fe-doped ${\text{KNbO}}_{3}$ crystals is observed in the visible and infrared spectral ranges after single pulse illumination with $\ensuremath{\lambda}=532\text{ }\text{nm}$. For nominally

The polaronic light-induced absorption αli(t) is investigated in LiNbO3:Mg via ESA spectroscopy. In comparison with nominally pure LiNbO3, changes in the lifetime of αli(t) are found and attributed to changes in the intrinsic defect structure.

Polaronic light-induced absorption αli(t) is investigated in nominally pure, congruently melting LiNbO3via ESA spectroscopy. Chemical reduction affects the amplitudes of αli(t), i.e. the number densities of electron and hole polarons, leaving their

An overview of the properties of electron small polarons and bipolarons is given, which can occur in the congruently melting composition of LiNbO(3) (LN). Such polarons influence the performance of this important optical material decisively. Since co
