She is a researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), from Brazil.; Ariane Ferreira Machado Avelar, PhD, MSN, RN, is an associate professor of the Pediatric Nursing Department, UNIFESP, Universidade Federal de São Paulo, in São Paulo, Brazil, and advisor of the Postgraduate Program in Nursing at UNIFESP. She earned her nursing degree from Faculdade de Enfermagem do Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in 1998, her pediatric nurse specialty certificate in 2001, her master's degree in nursing in 2003, and a PhD in science in 2009. Dr Machado Avelar is a researcher and leader of the CNPq Research Group Sleep, Environment and Mental Health, coordinator of the training course 'Use of Vascular Ultrasonography for Insertion of Catheters by Nurses,' and researcher of the SEGTEC research group. She has experience in pediatric and neonatal nursing, with a focus on pediatric nursing, neonatal nursing, nursing care, intravenous therapy, vascular ultrasound for insertion of peripheral and central catheters, pediatric surgery, patient safety, developmental care of the newborn, ambience, and sleep.
