Abstract The maintenance of glucose homeostasis is obligatory for health and survival. It relies on peripheral glucose sensing and signalling between the brain and peripheral organs via hormonal and neural responses that restore euglycaemia. Failure

The study of the pathophysiology and possible interventions for non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction is hindered by the lack of a reproducible pre-clinical model. Here, authors develop an ovine model to reproduce post-ischemic remodeling in

The carotid body is the primary peripheral chemoreceptor in the body, and critical for respiration and cardiovascular adjustments during hypoxia. Yet considerable evidence now implicates the carotid body as a multimodal sensor, mediating the chemoref

Thrombospondins (TSPs) are multidomain, secreted proteins that associate with cell surfaces and extracellular matrix. In mammals, there is a large body of data on functional roles of various TSP family members in cardiovascular disease (CVD), includi

The cell bodies of hypothalamic magnocellular neurones are densely packed in the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus (SON) whereas their axons project to the anatomically discrete posterior pituitary gland. We have taken advantage of this unique anatomic

The rising incidence of non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and associated long-term high mortality constitutes an urgent clinical issue. Unfortunately, the study of possible interventions to treat this pathology lacks a reproduci

Background: Aberrant sympathetic nerve activity exacerbates cardiovascular risk in hypertension and diabetes, which are common comorbidities, yet clinically sympathetic nerve activity remains poorly controlled. The hypertensive diabetic state is asso

Diverticular disease (DD) is one of the most prevalent diseases of the large bowel. Lately, imbalance of neuro-muscular transmission has been recognized as a major etiological factor for DD. Neuronal calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a potent
