Background: One factor contributing to rotational deformity of the first metatarsal in hallux valgus is torsion of the metatarsal itself. Hallux rigidus also involves reduction of the longitudinal arch, but metatarsal torsion has not been discussed.

Category: Bunion Introduction/Purpose: In a previous study, we found that feet with hallux valgus show significantly greater three-dimensional mobility than normal feet in all joints of the first ray. Displacement was particularly pronounced in the f

Category: Bunion Introduction/Purpose: Hypermobility of the tarsometatarsal (TMT) joint has been much debated, but is considered to be an important factor in hallux valgus. However to date, studies investigating such hypermobility have been limited t

Background: Hypermobility of the first ray has been evaluated using various methods and has conventionally been considered to be involved in the pathology of hallux valgus. We hypothesized that hypermobility of the first ray in hallux valgus could be

Background: The windlass mechanism (WM) increases the longitudinal arch of the foot via tension of the plantar aponeurosis during dorsiflexion of the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint. The purpose of this study was to perform a 3-dimensional evaluation

Background Previously, we developed an image-guided navigation system (IG-NS) incorporating augmented reality (AR) technology. Nevertheless, the system could still only aid the operator by presenting imagery and was short of achieving the goal of dev

Background To achieve safety of the operation, preoperative simulation became a routine practice for hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HBP) surgery. The use of intraoperative ultrasonography (IOUS) is essential in HBP surgery. There is a limitation in th
