Two pure hexagonal phases of titanium dioxide, anatase and rutile, were grown on c-cut Al2O3 substrates via pulsed-laser deposition by changing only the growth and annealing conditions, but without changing the substrate, target, or working gas. Puri

In very thin Group 11 metal films (i.e., copper, silver, and gold), with thicknesses of the same order of magnitude or smaller than the electron mean free path, the morphology of the film surface can affect the physical properties of the film. To inv

Thin films of vanadium dioxide were grown with various fractions of tungsten doping controlled during growth through alternating-target pulsed laser deposition. A range of V1−x W x O2 films were grown on (0001) sapphire substrates with x values on

An array of 180 nm diameter gold nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in a thin vanadium dioxide film was used as a nanoscale probe of the thermochromic semiconductor-to-metal transition (SMT) in the VO2. The observed 30% reduction in plasmon dephasing time

Nanocomposites consisting of gold nanoparticle (NP) arrays and vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin films are noteworthy for the tunability of both their thermal and optical properties. The localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of the Au can be tuned whe

The fascinating thermochromic material vanadium dioxide (VO 2 ) is currently attracting much attention for both scientific and technological applications. VO 2 exhibits a reversible, solid-solid semiconductor-to-metallic phase transition (SMT) at a r

We present an investigation of H-alpha emission line variations observed in the massive Algol binary, RY Per. We give new radial velocity data for the secondary based upon our optical spectra and for the primary based upon high dispersion UV spectra.
