Stereoelectronic complementarity between the active site of an enzyme and the transition state of a reaction is one of the tenets of enzyme catalysis. This report illustrates the principles of enzyme catalysis (first proposed by Pauling and Jencks) t

Perhydrophenanthrene-1,5,10-trione (6) was isolated from the reaction of methyl 3-(carboxymethyl)cyclohexanone and cyclohexenone in a tandem Michael–Claisen reaction. NMR and X-ray analysis confirmed the structure of the product.

The arenium acid [mesitylene-H](+) has been shown to be an extraordinarily active H/D exchange catalyst for the perdeuteration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The reactions take place under ambient conditions in C6D6 as an inexpensive deuterium

An efficient entry process for the synthesis of corannulene has been demonstrated on kilogram scale. Compared to the discovery and gram-scale syntheses, the amounts of solvents and reagents per gram of product were greatly reduced. Priority was given
