Long-chain alkenones (LCAs)—lipides produced by some microalgae of the Haptophyta group in seas and continental water bodies—are promising paleomarkers of climate changes because they are well-preserved in bottom sediments. The hydrocarbon chain

An anomalous layer enriched with chemical elements indicating the presence of terrigenous matter was discovered in the sediment core of Zapovednoe Lake located 60 km from the epicenter of the Tunguska event (1908) using synchrotron radiation X-ray fl

Two samples of the Chelyabinsk meteorite are examined via scanning synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence microanalysis. The spatial distribution of several chemical elements is studied, and the patterns of localization are obtained for germanium a

The possibility of distinguishing layer boundaries through lithological and geochemical indicators (Rb/Sr ratio) is shown by a case study of bottom sediments from Lake Kucherlinskoe (Altai). Based on the data from scanning synchrotron radiation–ind

Cores of bottom sediments of Lake Karakel (Northern Caucasus) were obtained in 2010 and 2014 to perform geochemical studies for reconstructing the regional paleoclimate of the late Holocene. Solid samples of bottom sediments were scanned via micro-XR

Bottom sediments from Lake Kucherlinskoe that contain finely-laminated layers are studied using micro-XRF on synchrotron radiation beams from the VEPP-3 storage ring. Samples with visible layers are prepared as solid specimens impregnated with epoxy.
