High-field experiments are very sensitive to the exact value of the peak intensity of an optical pulse due to the nonlinearity of the underlying processes. Therefore, precise knowledge of the pulse intensity, which is mainly limited by the accuracy o

Relativistic surface high harmonics have been considered a unique source for the generation of intense isolated attosecond pulses in the extreme ultra-violet and x-ray spectral ranges. Their practical realization, however, is still a challenging task

We present a study on temperature dependent spectroscopic data for Yb:KGW, Yb:KYW and Yb:YLF between 80 K and 280 K and Yb:YAP between 100 K and 300 K. Absorption and emission cross sections are determined. The latter ones are obtained by using a com

High harmonics generated on solid surfaces (SHHG) promise a much higher efficiency compared to harmonics generated in gases. In case of ROM (Relativistically Oscillating Mirror) mechanism [1], conversion efficiencies up to the percent level are predi

For experiments in plasma, nuclear, and high-energy physics, there is a strong demand for laser pulses exhibiting relativistic intensity, few-cycle pulse duration, and a very high contrast. Here we present a picosecond-pumped optical parametric chirp
