To advance the traditional structural integrity and life estimation approach, this article presents an explanation of damage and develops an alternative approach to damage assessment based on the fundamental laws of thermodynamics. This explanation p
We introduce a class of models based on near crack tip degradation of materials that can account for fracture growth under cyclic loads below the Griffith threshold. We incorporate the gradual degradation due to a cyclic load through a flow equation

Cumulative hazard and cumulative damage are important models for reliability and structural integrity assessment. This article reviews a previously developed thermodynamic entropy–based damage model and derives and demonstrates an equivalent reliab

A new framework is proposed for probabilistic fatigue life prediction considering randomness from both loadings and material properties. Piecewise stochastic rainflow counting (PSRC) is proposed to transform random loading spectrums to block loadings
