We estimate power consumption of several advanced PON technologies and architectures w/o and w/ reach extenders. Our results show that hybrid TDM/WDM PON has the potential to provide the highest energy efficiency.

We describe reach extension in SARDANA TDM/WDM PON and show that energy efficiency of SARDANA increases when increasing the amount of broadcast traffic. 10G point-to-point optical access networks provide low efficiency for limited uplink capacity.
