A method is presented for using DEM to find the pore pressure, total stress, and effective stress within a granular assembly during either undrained or drained conditions, by using poroelastic principles to directly determine the pore fluid pressure.

In this paper, we explore the use of micromorphic-type interface conditions for the modeling of a finite-sized metamaterial. We show how finite-domain boundary value problems can be approached in the framework of enriched continuum mechanics (relaxed

The linear-frictional contact model is the most commonly used contact mechanism for discrete element (DEM) simulations of granular materials. Linear springs with a frictional slider are used for modeling interactions in directions normal and tangenti
Fault zones usually present a granular gouge, coming from the wear material of previous slips. This layer contributes to friction stability and plays a key role in the way elastic energy is release...

Rheology and kinematics of dense granular fault gouges with DEM: shear bands formation and evolution
Earthquakes happen with frictional sliding, by releasing all the stresses accumulated in the pre-stressed surrounding medium. The geological third body (i.e. fault gouge), coming from the wear of previous slips, acts on friction stability and plays a
