At the heart of transition research lies the question of how to “scale up” sustainable alternatives from a protected niche to the creation of mainstream practices. While upscaling processes are often seen as an essential element that contributes t

The DNA rudivirus SIRV1 of the hyperthermophilic archaeon Sulfolobus shows exceptional properties. Viral isolates invariably contain a population of variants with different but closely related genomes. Upon propagation in a given host strain, one or

A novel phosphoinositolglycan-peptide (PIG-P) from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae potently mimicks insulin action on glucose transport and metabolism in rat muscle and adipose tissue. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the cellular sig

Polar headgroups of free glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) lipids or protein-bound GPI membrane anchors have been shown to exhibit insulin-mimetic activity in different cell types. However, elucidation of the molecular mode of action of these phosp

Aims/hypothesis To identify a GTPase of 24,000 M(r) which we recently found to co-localize with GLUT4 in cardiac muscle. Methods A 24,000 M(r)-GTP-binding fraction was purified from pig heart by a three-step chromatographic procedure, followed by two
