The importance of lone pairs to structure and bonding of the novel germanium nitridophosphate GeP2N4

The new nitridophosphate GeP2N4 differs structurally from all other known MP2N4 phases, owing to a Ge2+ lone pair. Its stereochemical influence could be exploited to tune the properties of other compounds when M2+ is exchanged with Ge2+.
