We present observations of a remarkable compact group of galaxies at z = 2.48. Four galaxies, all within 40 kpc of each other, surround a powerful high redshift radio source. This group comprises two compact red passive galaxies and a pair of merging

We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) 870um observations of 29 bright Herschel sources near high-redshift QSOs. The observations confirm that 20 of the Herschel sources are submillimeter-bright galaxies (SMGs) and identify 16

From a search of a portion of the sky covered by the SDSS and UKIDSS databases, we have located 2 galaxies at z~0.5 that have properties similar to those of the luminous passive compact galaxies found at z~2.5. From Keck moderate-resolution spectrosc

We present Spitzer IRS spectra and MIPS photometry of 12 radio-loud QSOs with FR II morphologies at z ~ 0.3. Six of the sources are surrounded by luminous extended emission-line regions (EELRs), while the other six do not have such extended nebulae.

We present results from a pilot HST ACS deep imaging study in broad-band V of five low-redshift QSO host galaxies classified in the literature as ellipticals. The aim of our study is to determine whether these early-type hosts formed at high redshift

We present Gemini integral field spectroscopy and Keck II longslit spectroscopy of the extended emission-line region (EELR) around the quasar 4C 37.43. The velocity structure of the ionized gas is complex and cannot be explained globally by a simple

We present a correlation between the presence of luminous extended emission-line regions (EELRs) and the metallicity of the broad-line regions (BLRs) of low-redshift quasars. The result is based on ground-based [O III] 5007 narrow-band imaging and Hu

Extended emission-line regions (EELRs) on scales of a few tens of kpc are found around a substantial fraction of steep-spectrum radio-loud QSOs. In most cases, at least at low redshifts, the distribution of this gas seems to be uncorrelated with eith

We report NIR (primarily H-band) AO imaging with the Gemini-N and Subaru telescopes, of 32 nearby (z 2.1 L H * ), with a range −23.5 to −26.5. At L H * , all hosts have a dominant disk component, while at > 2 L H * most are ellipticals. “Distur
