The triacylated lipid A partial structure OM-174 was characterized in detail using a variety of physical and biological techniques. OM-174 aggregates adopt the micellar HI structure. The temperature (Tc) of the gel to liquid-crystalline phase transit

After a brief historical overview of the development of three families of poly(ortho esters) (POEs), the physico-chemical characteristics, drug release properties and biocompatibility of the third generation is discussed. Its synthesis is based on a

A survey was made of the influence of irradiation sterilization on relevant natural, semisynthetic, and synthetic polymers used for drug carrier system. The first part of the review deals with some general aspects of irradiation treatment and its use

Semi-solid poly(ortho esters) (POE) prepared by a transesterification reaction between trimethyl orthoacetate and 1,2,6-hexanetriol were investigated as injectable bioerodible polymers for the controlled release of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and mitomycin

A semi-solid poly(ortho ester) was prepared by the reaction between 1,2,6-hexanetriol and trimethyl orthoacetate. The use of a flexible triol such as 1,2,6-hexanetriol produces highly flexible polymers that have viscous behavior at room temperature.

We evaluated the biotolerance of a new semisolid poly(ortho ester) (POE) intended for controlled drug delivery. Two different investigations were carried out in rats: subcutaneous injections and the cage-implant system. Sodium hyaluronate (SH), 1%, i

Since the late 1970s, three families of poly(ortho esters) (POE) were synthesized to provide bioerodible carriers for drug delivery devices. The most recent POE is a semi-solid polymer with a viscous behavior at room temperature. Polymer synthesis by

Viscous poly(ortho-ester)s (POE), synthesised by a transesterification reaction between a substituted orthoacetate and a triol have been shown to be bioerodible polymers and are currently under investigation as a drug carrier material. Main efforts o

The research work carried out for developing bioerodible drug delivery devices in which the erosion process was to be confined to the polymer-water interface is at the origin of the discovery of a class of polymers known as poly(ortho esters) (POEs).
