In March 1997, a large food poisoning incident due to ingestion of wild oysters, “magaki”, Crassostrea gigas, occurred at Tamano-ura, Goto Islands, Nagasaki, Japan. Twenty-six people were poisoned, of whom sixteen were hospitalized but recovered.
