Two novel triptycene derivatives, 9-(p-methoxyphenyl)-silyltriptycene (TRP) and sterically congested 1,4-dichloro-9-(p-methoxyphenyl)-silyltriptycene (TRPCl), are reported. TRP was prepared via both cycloaddition and a more efficient carbanion route.
