Gas bubbles in the bottom of shallow-water seas and freshwater basins lead to a substantial decrease in the sound speed. The gas content in the bottom changes because of the variability of the biological activity and water contamination, therefore se

Computer simulations are performed to study the effect of internal waves and heating of the surface water layer on the behavior of the local spectral maximums of the interference sound field in coastal slope conditions, as applied to the operation of

Two new methods of acoustic monitoring of the sea medium are tested in a shelf region. One of the methods is the difference-pulse technique in which the variability of the medium is characterized by the difference in the energies of the sequences of

The Russian research vessel Akademik Nikolai Andreyev participated in the HIFT experiment while anchored above the Krylov Seamount (17.5° N, 30° W). The propagation path length from Heard Island to Krylov was 12.5 Mm, and was located just between t

Two new methods to monitor the medium variability at a sea shelf are discussed. The first method is based on the difference‐pulse technique, in which the information on medium variations is carried by the difference between two amplitude‐time seq

A hypothesis is discussed where cosmic rays contribute much to underwater noise formation. Under dead calm in the ocean at high frequencies of 5 kHz and higher, the sound sources caused by wind, wave of turbulent power can not determine the observed

In‐sea experiments show a possibility to estimate parameters of the water column by analyzing space‐time characteristics of the natural ambient noise. If the noise is reradiated by sound transponder located at a distance from the receiver, a rege

A method is proposed to monitor variability of the medium parameters on an acoustic path. The method has been tested for temperature and current monitoring in the Black Sea. The technique is based on the regenerative scheme with a positive feedback.
