Most of what we know of cosmic gamma rays has come from spacecraft, but at energies above tens of GeV it has become possible to make observations with ground-based detectors of enormously greater collecting area. In recent years one such detector typ

We present the discovery of gamma-ray emission greater than 350 GeV from the BL Lacertae (BL Lac) object 1ES 2344 + 514 with the Whipple Observatory 10 m gamma-ray telescope. This is the third BL Lac object detected at very high energies (VHE, E > 30

From considering the effect of γ γ interactions on recently observed TeV gamma-ray spectra, improved limits are set to the density of extragalactic infrared photons which are robust and essentially model independent. The resulting limits are more t

Bell's version of diffusive shock acceleration in supernova remnants, in which the (highly contorted) magnetic field is mainly self-generated by the accelerated particles, seems to explain the sharpness of the knee in the cosmic ray spectrum (an effe

Diffusive shock acceleration at the outer front of expanding supernova remnants has provided by far the most popular model for the origin of galactic cosmic rays, and has been the subject of intensive theoretical investigation. But several problems l

The blazar 1ES 1959+650 was observed in a flaring state with the Whipple 10 m Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope during May of 2002. A spectral analysis has been carried out on the data from that time period and the resulting very high energy ga

The BL Lac object H1426+428 was recently detected as a high energy gamma-ray source by the VERITAS collaboration (Horan et al. 2002). We have reanalyzed the 2001 portion of the data used in the detection in order to examine the spectrum of H1426+428
