The rare earth hydride YH$_{3-\delta}$ can be tuned through the metal-insulator transition both by changing $\delta$ and by illumination with ultraviolet light. The transition is dominated by strong electron-electron interactions, with transport in t

A single yttrium hydride thin film is conveniently driven through the T = 0 metal-insulator transition by fine-tuning the charge :carrier density n via persistent photoconductivity at low temperature. Simultaneously, electrical conductivity and Hall

A gas loading cell has been developed to load rare earth thin film samples with hydrogen at pressures up to 200 bars at room temperature. A miniature valve closes the gas inlet, after which the cell is suspended from the cold tail of a ^3He flow cryo

Rare earth hydride films can be converted reversibly from metallic mirrors to insulating windows simply by changing the surrounding hydrogen gas pressure at room temperature. At low temperatures, in situ doping is not possible in this way as hydrogen

There are strong indications that the light-induced metal–insulator transition (MIT) in YH x is a quantum phase transition. If true, the conductivity should develop not only a characteristic scaling behavior with regard to doping and temperature, b

The "switchable mirror" yttrium hydride is one of the few strongly correlated systems with a continuous Mott-Hubbard metal-insulator transition. We systematically map out the low temperature electrical transport from deep in the insulator to the quan

We have used persistent photoconductivity to smoothly tune the hole-doping in an underdoped cuprate in the critical doping region and studied its transverse magnetoresistance (MR). A series of YBa2Cu3O6+x (0.02 ≤ x ≤ 1) thin films of thickness ~5
