The paper summarizes data on diagnostics, geographical distribution, and ecology of the boreal horsefly, Hybomitra tarandina (Linnaeus, 1758), in Poland. Both published and new records indicate that H. tarandina is neither frequent nor abundant here.

A faunistic survey of the hoverflies was conducted in the western part of the Western Beskids in the years 2012-2020. During this study, 106 species of Syrphidae were found, including a large set of mountain and boreal-mountain species.
